Issue 1 Articles: Your Human System:You have a conscious mind and a subconscious mind. Your subconscious is loaded up with all the elements of your conditioning – whether these are positive or negative. The negativities are a series of blocks, restrictions and limitations. They constantly seep to the surface of your conscious mind – without your awareness - as choices, decisions and behaviours. They can limit, or even completely sabotage your life. And you are totally unaware of their power. Often it is only when you look back on your life that you see how you have set yourself up – albeit subconsciously. So what can you do about this? You Have One Major Power: By attempting to get a grip on, and to master your attention, you flush to the surface whatever is unresolved within yourself. Why? Because when you focus your attention onto life improvements or changes - you draw to your consciousness all the unresolved blockages from your subconscious mind. It is like squeezing the dirty water from a sponge. Concentrating on anything new, for an extended period, causes anything opposite to it to be flushed out. So if you have had a problem with money or relationships, by concentrating on improving these areas, or by trying to behave differently, the old negative program is contradicted. It then rebels, by either playing out – that is by making your money or relationship issue worse – or by making you negative and lethargic or disinterested in performing the activities necessary for change. This is why people find it so difficult to change themselves or their lives. They do not realise that the activity of trying to change, of trying to turn your attention from one part of your mind to another, causes this automatic release or negativity to take place. Just like trying to start an exercise program, it is going through the first flushes of resistance that is the secret of success. The Solution to this Problem is as Follows: 1). Understand and accept that your negativity will have to be released if you wish to have a great life. Don’t hang onto it. It is a blockage, like mud stuck in a pipe. It restricts you. It can even affect your health. It has to be freed up to allow expression of your full potential, and to change the circumstances of your life. 2). When it arises, become aware of it as negativity, don’t believe it is who you are. It doesn’t matter what type it is – anger, resentment, lethargy, resistance, lack of confidence, confusion, guilt and so on. It is all just contraction from free self-expression. Breathe through it. Observe it. Try to unhook from it, which means to separate or be detached from it. You can only get control of negativity by catching yourself in the moment it arises – or at least immediately afterwards. Say to yourself – ‘Phew – this is or that was my negativity’. The more you do this, the more you will free yourself and life will respond by giving you incredible opportunities to grow and expand your potentials. 3). Practice at every opportunity becoming conscious of where your attention is being directed. Most people are on automatic – sometimes for their whole lives. Only by being aware in the moment will you start to gain the ability to really direct your life. 4). Pick one thing each day – or more if you like – where you practice being fully in the present. Say it is preparing a meal. Put your full attention on it. Be conscious of every activity of preparation – don’t let your mind wander. Or, if performing a physical activity, be very aware of every part of your body when you are exercising or walking. Send your awareness to every part of your body, your feet to your head, your front and back. By dragging your attention away from the mind’s wanderings, you will build your ability to direct your attention. 5). Pick one thing you always have wanted to do, that you would like to do, but never have. Then do it. It can be a small whim, just a little something, like cleaning out a cupboard or a shed. Commit yourself. Achieve it. Then go onto something else. These are things that you want to do – not things that you don’t really want to do. When doing these, be aware of all the reactions of your mind (a) when you approach doing them, and (b) while you are doing them. It can be very revealing. It will also start you on a path to being able to direct your attention more fully and more consciously. It is the first, and unavoidable, step. Directing your attention means that you have the full power of your mind available to use in any area you want. Practice these few steps and see the difference it makes!
